Making the World a Better Place, One Pint at a Time

Brew News

We’ve got some exciting news to share! For the first time ever, two of our most beloved beers, Red Seal Ale and PranQster Belgian Style Golden Ale, are now available in 12 oz cans. This is a milestone that’s been a long time coming, and we couldn’t be prouder to finally bring these classics to you in a whole new way.

Red Seal Ale was one of our original three brews when we first opened in 1988, and PranQster followed in 1995. Both quickly became cornerstones of our lineup: Red Seal Ale with its full body and spicy finish, and PranQster with its floral aromas and full, fruity flavor. These beers helped define who we are, and they’ve been fan favorites ever since.

“These beers have been with us since the early days, in bottles and on draft,” said CEO/CFO Jennifer Owen. “Canning them for the first time is not just a packaging update—it’s a celebration of their legacy and a way to bring them to more people in a more convenient package.”

Beer Cans Bring a New Era in the NCBC Brewhouse

This release marks the debut of our new canning line, a game-changer for us in so many ways. Adding a canning line gives us full control over our packaging process, which means we can ensure consistency and operational efficiency while preserving the integrity of our time-honored recipes. We love the added flexibility of switching production between cans, bottles, and kegs. The new line also allows us to get our beers out into the world more easily, in packaging that’s ideal for your active lifestyles.

Cans are lightweight, portable, and recyclable, making them perfect for everything from beach days to backpacking trips. And for those of you who’ve been enjoying Red Seal Ale and PranQster for years, we promise: it’s the same great beer, just in a more convenient package. And don’t forget, we are still producing those bottles!

Sustainability in Every Sip

Introducing these new beer cans gave us the opportunity to double down on something else that matters to us: sustainability. Alongside the can launch, we’re proud to introduce Eco-Rings: a 100% compostable alternative to plastic can holders. Made from natural plant fibers and fully biodegradable materials, Eco-Rings break down completely in both home and commercial composting environments. This innovative packaging is also zero waste, aligning with our commitment to reducing landfill impact and minimizing our environmental footprint. No microplastics, no harm to wildlife, just smart, sustainable packaging that does right by the planet.

This is a step forward that aligns with our values as a company. From day one, we’ve been committed to crafting quality beer responsibly, and Eco-Rings are just one more way we’re living that commitment. “We’re proud to pair this historic canning release with a packaging innovation that reflects our values,” Owen added. “Eco-Rings are a step forward for the planet and for craft beer.” Sustainability is a core part of our mission, check out our annual Sustainability Report to learn more about our practices and progress.

Where to Find the New Beer Cans

You can now find six packs of Red Seal Ale and four packs of PranQster in 12 oz cans at select retailers, right here in our Brewery Shop, and online (where shipping laws allow). We’ve updated the labels to reflect this new chapter, keeping the soul of the originals while giving them a fresh look that stands out on the shelf.

This isn’t just a packaging update. It’s a celebration of everything these beers have meant to us, and to you, over the years. It’s a toast to their legacy and to the many new adventures to come.
