A NEW TAKE ON A CLASSIC AMERICAN LAGER

The Acme Brewing Company was formed in 1907, with Jacob P. Rettenmayer as Acme’s first brewmaster. Originally brewed in San Francisco, the brewery expanded in 1935 to a second facility in Los Angeles. For a peek inside Acme during its heyday in the 1940’s, check out the video to the left. We have been proud to revive the name of this early icon of California brewing ever since acquiring the trademark rights to the Acme brand back in 1995.

The flagship beer from Acme Breweries was called Acme Beer and we know that it was a light, pilsner beer, a style which was produced widely by North American breweries throughout the early 20th century.

Our take on this pre-prohibition lager is light-bodied, straw-colored, and firmly bittered for a dry, thirst-quenching palate. Acme Beer is fermented cold with a lager yeast strain that we selected to spotlight the bready, biscuity malt character, without the fruity esters often associated with ale yeast fermentation. Noble Hops add a subtle spicy and floral character to the aroma. A reduced malt bill yields a lighter body, making Acme Beer refreshing and delicious.
